1 How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?

An investigative and unfolding and ultimately surprising revelation of a
series of people an events that disclose information about this important
filmmaking collective, Ogawa Productions, never before known.

2 Why did you choose to shoot on dv?

In Japan, carrying my own equipment, working simply, translator, sound woman
holds mike attached to camera. No frills, just chills.

3 What was special about shooting in dv (e.g.compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it)?

Are you kidding? I can do a major film/video documentary with this small
equipment. With a new Ikei Projector the BetacamSP which was my online looked
like FILM.
First time making major work/dv and Fincal Cut Pro. Steep learning curve.

4 Which camera and which editing software did you use?

5 What was your shoot-edit ratio?

|
Doc is 84 minutes long. I have about 74 60 min DV tapes of material. some
are archival and not shot DV. About and at least 50 or 60 to 1.

6 Would you have preferred to shoot in another format? If so which?

This was fine for this piece. For film I work abstractly with an optical
printer and then 16mm is just what I need.

7 Does using dv mean that you are considering other means of distribution opposing the established? If so which?

Web distribution when the system gets going. Any form of distribution. I am
ready.

[Barbara Hammer was born in Hollywood in 1939 to a Ukrainian mother and a Swedish father. She began making films at about the age of thirty.
