TRAILER
/ Flash

INTERVIEW

How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
Verité and intimate.

Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
We were filming in the West Bank with a very small crew and little time for set up. We also shot a lot so we needed an inexpensive stock to record on. Finally, the activists/camera people who were filming the very active demonstrations could not afford (safety-wise and financially) to be carrying equipment that would require any more work than simply changing tapes.

Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
MiniDV PAL, for all the reasons mentioned above. PAL because it was the format that all activists were using and because it gives a better transfer to film.

What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
Very used to it.

What was your shoot-edit ratio?
150 hours of footage for a 78-minute documentary.

One good word about DV / HDV (or two):
DV - inexpensive, does not require a lot of disk space in the editing phase.

One bad word about DV / HDV (or two):
DV does not take color correction as well as HD would. Since my master is on HD, would have been better if the footage had been shot on HD too.
